What is Lipizzan?

The Lipizzan is a muscular, powerful Baroque horse standing 148–162 cm, with a predominantly gray coat and a slow-maturing, long-lived nature. It excels in dressage, classical horsemanship, and driving, with a close link to the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. The breed was developed in the 16th century under Habsburg rule from Arab, Barb, Spanish, and Neapolitan bloodlines at Lipica in present-day Slovenia. Its studbook, established in 1580, is among the oldest in Europe.
