What is Shetland pony?

The Shetland pony is the smallest British breed, standing up to 107 cm with a dense double coat built for harsh winters. It excels in driving, children's riding, show, dressage, and jumping. Developed on Scotland's Shetland Islands, it hauled peat and worked as a pit pony before modern sport roles. The Shetland Pony Stud-Book Society has registered the breed since 1891, and it is now recognised across 16 countries.
