What is TREC?

TREC is an outdoor equestrian discipline that combines orienteering with obstacle challenges and precise gait control on natural terrain. Riders navigate varied trails while their horses negotiate obstacles and demonstrate measured, calm gaits. Three core components define the sport: orienteering, obstacle negotiation, and gait mastery. Unlike Trail Leisure or Endurance Distance, TREC integrates navigation and obstacle scoring as fundamental elements rather than focusing purely on recreation or speed.
