What defines riding in Salzburg?

Most of Salzburg is Alpine, the Northern Limestone Alps and the Hohe Tauern define its character, leaving only the northern fringe on flatter ground. The Riding School and its studs, home to several hundred Lipizzaner horses, draw around 400,000 visitors each year. Since 2015, that tradition of classical horsemanship has carried UNESCO intangible cultural heritage status. Salzburg's alpine valleys and Mozart-era cultural legacy make it a compelling destination for traveling horse people.
