What is Haflinger?

This chestnut mountain horse wears a flaxen mane and tail, standing 138–150 cm with a sturdy, muscular build. Energetic yet smooth in gait, it serves for sport and leisure riding, packhorse duties, farm work, and liberty dressage. The breed was developed in Tyrol and northern Italy's South Tyrol for mountainous terrain. Closed breed books since 1920 preserve purity through descent from the foundation sire 249 Folie, born in 1874.
