What defines riding in Hesse?

Hessen covers central Germany in silver-fir, beech and oak woodland, roughly 40 per cent of the land lies under forest canopy. Breeding of the Hessen Horse began in 1724, when Berberbeck was elevated to court stud status. Frankfurt am Main, Germany's principal financial centre, is the state's largest urban area, while Wiesbaden serves as capital. The Hessians trace their name to the ancient Chatti tribe, lending the landscape a sense of history that extends well beyond the stable door.
