The Longines CCI5-L / CCI4-S Meßmer Trophy is an international eventing competition held at Reitanlage Luhmühlen in Lower Saxony, Germany, running 18 to 21 June 2026. As a CCI5-L event, Luhmühlen ranks among the most demanding horse trials on the FEI international calendar. Spectators and riders alike come to watch three disciplines unfold across four days: dressage in the arena, cross country through the Lower Saxon countryside, and show jumping to close the competition. The competition opens with dressage: the first half of the Longines CCI5*-L field goes through their tests, while the CCI4*-S Meßmer Trophy begins its dressage phase. For many pairs, this is their first appearance in front of the judges.

The second half of the CCI5*-L field completes their dressage tests, and the CCI4*-S wraps up its dressage phase too. By the end of the day, the standings before cross country are set.

Cross country takes over. Combinations from both the CCI5*-L and CCI4*-S tackle the outdoor course, where pace, stamina, and accuracy shape the overall standings.

Show jumping in the CCI5*-L decides the final order. Prize-giving ceremonies for both the CCI5*-L and the CCI4*-S Meßmer Trophy close out the week.
Where does Luhmühlen Horse Trials take place?
The Longines CCI5-L / CCI4-S Meßmer Trophy takes place at Reitanlage Luhmühlen in Luhmühlen, Lower Saxony. The grounds sit within the open landscape of the Lüneburg Heath, and the cross-country course makes full use of the heathland terrain, wide, varied, and visible over long distances. The surrounding region offers walking and cycling routes through heather and forest, making Luhmühlen worth a longer stay beyond the competition days.

By car, take the A7 to junction Soltau-Ost and follow the signs for „Luhmühlen Horse Trials". Parking for cars, trailers, and lorries is available on site; if you're arriving with a horse transporter, dedicated spaces are marked near the stables and on car park P3. By train, travel to Soltau (Heide) station and take the shuttle bus (line 1) to the venue – around 15 minutes.
The Longines CCI5-L / CCI4-S Meßmer Trophy is a ticketed event, and spectators can follow all three competition phases in person, dressage in the arena, cross country across the open heathland, and show jumping on the final day. Atmosphere The cross-country day is the draw for many visitors: the course runs through open terrain, and at multiple viewing points you can watch horse and rider from just a few metres away. The event site has a relaxed competition-weekend feel, with food stalls, trade stands, and steady action across all four days, nothing about it requires you to be a riding expert to enjoy it. Good to know - Sturdy footwear is strongly recommended, especially out on the cross-country course
